Year 7 and 8 Enrolment

 enrolment

Adelaide High School is a high demand school and the number of students who wish to enrol and attend exceeds the physical capacity of the school to accommodate these students.

To manage this demand and ensure a fair and equitable enrolment process for families and students, there is a set of enrolment criteria for the school.

Special Entry Programs

There are three Special Entry Programs for AHS. The Special Entry Language program accepts 60 students and the Rowing and Cricket Programs each accept 15 students. Each program requires a separate application process after which a selection of students is shortlisted for an interview.

The school also has a Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. The Centre caters for 13 students who access the mainstream curriculum through the provision and support from Teachers of the Deaf and Bilingual School Support Officers. Students have access to all the subject and learning provisions at Adelaide High School while also receiving targeted individualised learning through their Student One Plans.

The Department for Education oversees final approval of the students selected in these programs.

A school zone is a defined area from which the school accepts its core intake of students.  Where demand from families living in the shared area exceeds places available all applications will be ranked and if necessary students may be shared between the two schools. The Adelaide High School zone is shown on the map linked below.

To find your school zone based on your address use the ‘Find a school or preschool’ tool on the Department for Education website: https://www.education.sa.gov.au/sites-and-facilities/education-and-care-locations/find-school-or-preschool

Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Students with moderate or greater bilateral hearing loss verified by Special Educators: Hearing have direct enrolment into the Centre. Prior to enrolment at Adelaide High School, applications for students are reviewed and considered by a Department for Education central panel, which includes specialists who understand the impact of hearing loss.

Enter for Success Program

The Department for Education policy Enter for Success allows Year 7 students of Aboriginal background to enrol in any secondary school of their choice for Year 8. This option is only open to Aboriginal students progressing from Year 7 to Year 8.
