Year 8 Society & Environment - Major assessment task:

Outcomes:  Students will be able to:

  • describe pre-European Aboriginal society (Kaurna)
  • state where & when Aboriginal people lived in Australia
  • explain which parts of traditional Aboriginal society remain important today and would be interesting to tourists

1. Complete structured overview sheet (handout)
2. You need to:

3. You must design an advertisement which targets tourists and promotes a pre-European Australian lifestyle. (Make sure you understand exactly what is required.)

4. Work co-operatively to research key areas required to complete task. Remember, your teacher will be observing your:

- attracts the target audience –It gets the reader’s attention & clearly presents ideas & arguments

- use of words that convey the desired image
- the advertisement is written in appropriate point of view

Use of symbolism

- the advertisement shows a person(s) with whom the targeted audience would like to identify
- the advertisement uses objects, colour, setting(s) that convey the desired image
- person(s) pictured are clothed and positioned in a way that would appeal to the target audience

Understandings of content
- traditional Aboriginal society is presented positively
- there is evidence of an understanding of how Aboriginal people traditionally lived
- An understanding of the importance of the environment in traditional Aboriginal society is displayed

A bibliography is submitted
- It is correctly referenced and laid out to accurately show the range of research undertaken
