INTRODUCTION TASK
RESOURCES EVALUATION

Introduction

At last! You're finally on your way to France with your family on your long awaited holiday. The only problem is that each member of the family has different interests and somehow or other everyone has to be able to do and see things he or she wants to. So how do you satisfy everyone's wants? You are going to have t do some careful planning so that everyone has a great trip and brings back plenty of memories.

Task

Your task as a family of 4 is to plan and take a one week holiday to one region of France, all the while ensuring that everyone's desires and interests are satisfied. This means that compromises will have to be made. As you "take" your holiday you are to take photos of the places you visit and make journal entries so that you can create a Travel Diary of your trip to one of France's most popular regions.

Process

1. There are 4 members in your family - Mum, Dad, Brother and Sister. Each family member has different interests and consequently wants to see and do different things in the region that you are visiting.

Cultural Collette (mum) - wants to immerse herself in as much culture of the region as possible. She's heavily into good food and wine and wants to see what festivals etc the region has to offer.

Historical Harolde (dad) - is very interested in history and architecture and wants to see anything related to France's involvement in wars. He especially wants to see the chateaux, museums, churches and abbeys of the region.

Sightseeing Simone (daughter) - wants to see all the major tourist attractions.

Fun loving Phillipe (son) - is happy to do what everyone else wants to do as long as he can also have some fun; perhaps some water sports or outdoor activities.

2. As a group decide who is going to play each role and then decide which region you will visit.

Once you have selected your personae you should start your holiday to your selected region, visiting places on the Internet and doing things which fit your interests. Make sure you "take pictures" (save images) of the things you do and make some personal comments about the places and what you thought of them.
** Remember you are working as part of a group: if you find information which may help one of your other group members don't forget to share it with them.
** Also remember you must compile a bibliography of the sites you visit.
CLICK HERE to download a bibliography template. Fill in the bibliography sheet as you go.

3. Once all you information has been collected you must work as a group to select what places and activities you will retain for your family's Travel diary and what you will discard. Remember you are including activities for 7 days: the time must be divided fairly evenly between the interests of each family member so compromises will have to be made.

4. In making your Travel Diary of your holiday you set it out in the order that you do things but other than that it is up to you. Be as creative as possible! Your finished product will contain memories of your trip forever so it should be as colorful, creative and comprehensive as possible.

5. You will have to make a brief group presentation of your finished Travel Diary to the class. We'll have a class vote to find the best Diary and award a prize to the winners.
