Objectifs (français)
  • To learn the names of the continents and countries in French.
  • To determine the number of Francophone countries and countries with a large francophone population on each continent.
  • To prepare an information sheet for one francophone country.
Objectifs (ordinateur/ Internet)
  • To access websites on the Internet for research purposes.
  • To download information and images from the Internet and paste them into a document.
  • To present information gathered on a word processed document or webpage.
Introduction
This assignment will comprise 2 parts.
  • Activité A - Le Monde Francophone
  • In this section you will research general information on the use of French in the world. Your answers should be written on the sheet provided.
  • Activité B - Un Pays Francophone
  • In this section you will research a French speaking country other than France. You should present your information on a word processed document or webpage AND print it out.

 

Activité A - Le Monde Francophone
  • Using the information on the sheet provided, answer the following questions.
 1. What are the names of the 7 continents in English and French ?
 2. List the number of countries in each of the above 3  groups.
 3. Name one French speaking country on each continent.
 4. In your own words, give 3 pieces of information about the use of French
        * in the world
        * in Europe
        * in North America
        * in Africa
        * in Asia

 

Activité B - Un Pays Francophone

In this activity you will be researching ONE French speaking country and presenting your research on a word processed document or on a web page. Your work MUST contain

  • answers to the following questions IN YOUR OWN WORDS
  • a map of your country downloaded from the Internet
  • at least one picture downloaded from the Internet
  • a bibliography of the websites you consulted in doing your research
  1. Choose one French speaking country (other than France) that you wish to research. If you want a complete list of the Francophone countries from which to choose your country click here.

  2. Research the following about your country using any/all of the websites below. REMEMBER that you have  to find a picture and a map AND keep all of your bibliographic information.

                * name of the country in French and English
                * name of the continent on which it is found
                * names of the neighbouring countries
                * the capital city
                * the population
                * the currency
                * the official languages
                * climate
                * geographical features
                * cultural activities
                * things to do and see there

NEED HELP WITH THE COMPUTER / INTERNET ??
1. How do I download my picture and map?

  1. Place your arrow/cursor on the image.
  2. With your right mouse button click on the image and a dialogue box will appear.
  3. Scroll down to 'Save picture as' and click on it.
  4. Title your image in the "File Name" box.
  5. Click on Save.

 2. How do I paste my map and picture on my page?
  1. Depending on which program you use you will insert the image from your file.
  2. If using NETSCAPE click on "Image" on the top toolbar, the click on "Choose File". Once you have located the image   you want on your A: drive, double click on it. Then click on "OK" at the bottom of the dialogue box. You can move or resize your image by clicking on it and dragging the corners.
  3. If using WORD click on "Insert" on the top toolbar and scroll down to "Picture". Scroll across to "From File" and click on it. Once you have located the image that you want on your A: drive, double click on it. Then click on "OK" at the bottom of the dialogue box. You can move or resize your image by clicking on it and dragging the corners.


3. How do I save my bibliographic details ?

  1. You need to keep a record of the URL (ie. http://www.......), the author of the website, the title of the pages you use and the date you accessed them. Try using the webliography template
