Timeline
See your Italian teacher.
Task
Research an Italian city. You must present the information in written
form & orally to the class. Think of an interesting way to present
your work. eg. as a tour guide, a travel show reporter (like Catriona
or Ben from Getaway), a tourist.
Progress check
At this stage you should:
- located
the city on a map of Italy & give its Italian & English names
.
- find
t he
name of the region (in both languages). Show if it is the capital of
the region or a province. State the other provinces, the regional capital
& any other nearby cities or towns of importance.
- show
its neighbouring regions, countries, seas etc
- find
its climate &/ or size
- explore
two other aspects (see below)
Final
product
The final product should also
include:
- at
least 3 sentences in Italian about your city.
- some
information about 4 other aspects you have not yet tackled from the
list below.
- a
conclusion where you draw together all the information
- a
bibliography (which show you have used a variety of resources)
Other
aspects you can include information on:
- approx
population (indicate the year, if possible)
- languages
spoken (besides Italian), dialects
- the
flag or crest of the city & its abbreviation (eg PI - Pisa)
- physical
features - mountains, rivers, lakes
- famous
landmarks or monuments, attractions, a tour of your city, nearby attractions
- famous
dishes, regional specialties
- famous
people
- famous
festivals & / or traditions
- regional
costume
- a
brief overview of the local history
- economy,
major industries, natural resources
- major
problems (eg overcrowding, pollution, unemployment, housing, traffic)
- popular
activities, favourite pastimes, popular songs
- draw
something which in your opinion represents the city and label it.
Criteria for written report
- use
of your own words
- proper
sequencing (intro + map/ body + content (6 subtopics or aspects) / conclusion
+ Bibliography)
- evidence
of conducting research & redrafting in class (level of commitment
to the task)
- use
of fluent, correct English (& few phrases or sentences in Italian)
- attempt
made to present the written work in an interesting way
- appropriate
length
