Introduction
So you're studying French at Adelaide High but how much do you actually
know about the country France? Its impossible to learn about everything
but by undertaking this Introduction to France Research Assignment you
will get a really quick overview of some aspects of France and its culture
and people.
Task and Process
1. Following the class discussion of possible research topics, choose
one topic you are interested in. Conduct some research on the topic using
the resources available via the school Intranet and in the Resource Centre
as starting points.
2. You are only giving an overview of or brief introduction to the topic
to the class so your research does not have to be extensive.
3 . Keep in mind the following question as you conduct your research:
if you were French how would you brag about the topic to a non-French
person?
4 . You must also include a bibliography of the resources you used to
compile your answers. What is a bibliography? Click
here for some useful notes on compiling bibliographies. If you lose
the Webliography record sheet you were given click
here to download another copy.
Presentation
1. Your research should be presented in the form of a 6 slide PowerPoint
presentation (title page + 5 slides of information) which you will present
to the class. The presentation should include facts about the topic and
some pictures which illustrate it. The facts can be in note form. If you
are not sure how to download pictures click
here for some helpful notes.
2. Your PowerPoint presentation must be accompanied by an oral presentation
in which you elaborate on the information presented on the slides. You
MUST NOT read off the slides.
3. Your work should be saved on a store drive.
4. A note on the PowerPoint presentations.
The information you present is the most important aspect of your presentation,
not how “pretty” it is or how many sounds you incorporate.
Focus on getting the notes and images on the slides and only if you’ve
got time play around with the backgrounds etc.
Resources
There are a number of resource links available on the Intranet. Click
here to link to the list of French pages which contain a large number
of links.
Don’t forget the books in the Resource Centre: the encyclopaedias
are stored under the windows. Books about France are found on the non-fiction
shelves at 914 and books about the history of France are at 944.
