Assessment Component 2: In-Depth StudyThis page is designed to provide guidance and short-cuts to information for Year 12 students undertaking their In-Depth Study on Famous people in Spanish speaking communitiesClick on the hyperlinks for further help and information as required. TASKStudents prepare for the task through the study of 3 to 5 different texts and related research, outlining the contribution of one or more significant literary figure, popular entertainer, or sporting hero in a Spanish-speaking community. At least two of the texts should be in Spanish. Students then produce:
Imagine you are presenting a speech at a Multicultural Literary/Entertainment/Sports Awards Night. In your speech describe the contribution made by the person of your choice, giving reasons why you believe that it is important to honor the contribution that he or she has made.
Imagine you are in Latin America or Spain. Write a letter to the person of your choice, in which you discuss how and why that person has so impressed you, giving examples from their work(s)/songs/sporting achievements to support your opinions.
Imagine you have just returned from interviewing the person of your choice for a Multicultural Australian Magazine. Write the text of your interview, along with an introduction and conclusion. Evidence of students’ preparatory work may contain: - a list of words, phrases, or expressions; - a written plan or cue cards for the oral presentation (plan/cue cards in Spanish or English); - a draft of the response in Spanish; - a draft of the response in English; - personal notes, paragraphs, or short summaries relating to the text in the student’s own words; - charts, maps, diagrams, pictures as appropriate; - a bibliography or references. ASSESSMENTIn-depth study · relevance of response (purpose of the task, knowledge and understanding of the texts) · depth of response (variety of detail, degree of analysis) · evidence of preparation (connection between notes, drafts and reference materials) · evidence of reflection (degree of personal perspective and independence in response) · skills in commenting on features of language (explaining the use of language) · skills in commenting on features of culture (making comparisons). · accuracy and appropriateness of expression (vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar) General Links
