AIDS Day
The theme for the 13th annual World AIDS Day (2000) is "AIDS : Men Make
a difference". The day is an opportunity for governments, nongovernment
and local organization, as well as individuals everywhere, to demonstrate
both the importance they attached to the combat against AIDS and their solidarity
in this effort. The site, from the United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS,
provides background documents, media releases, and links.
Access
Information Centre at the Alfred
A state-wide resource centre on HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and Sexually Transmissible
Infections for the Victorian community (Australia). The Access Information
Centre helps people using the service to find information. The web site
guides users through the range of Internet information available and includes
fact sheets on various sexually transmitted diseases, support services,
statistics, prevention and links to other useful sites.
Aids,
Hepatitis and Sexual Health Line Inc.
An incorporated association that deals with sexually transmitted diseases
including HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis and in particular hepatitis C. The
web site contains general information about the functions of the association
as well as information about hepatitis, AIDS and other sexually transmitted
diseases.
AIDS
Council of South Australia
South Australia's peak community based HIV/AIDS organisation. ACSA seeks
to promote the best health and quality of life for those people in the
community affected by AIDS. ACSA works to achieve its aims by advocating
for the interests of those affected by AIDS virus, and through providing
a wide range of quality education, information, care and support services.
Australian
Federation of Aids Organisations (AFAO)
AFAO is the peak non-government organisation representing Australia's
community-based response to HIV/AIDS. Resources on the site include: a
magazine for people living with HIV/AIDS, policy and legal publications,
Health Maintenance and Monitoring Information Page, and links to related
materials.
Australian
National Council on AIDS and Related Diseases (ANCARD)
ANCARD is the Federal Government's peak advisory body on Australia's response
and management of HIV/AIDS and related diseases. ANCARD is primarily concerned
with the identification of national needs, objectives and priorities in
the areas of education, treatment, services and research and to take on
a public information role on HIV/AIDS and related issues in order to increase
community understanding. The site has information on and links to AIDS
related committees, strategies and reports.
National
Centre in HIV Social Research (NCHSR)
NCHSR conducts research which describes and analyses the social understandings,
meanings and practices of peoples, institutions and communities in relation
to HIV, STDs and other communicable diseases. Information about current
studies, research opportunities, and updates on research projects is available
from the site.
Sexually
Transmitted Disease Services - Clinic 275 - Royal Adelaide Hospital
This site provides information about Clinic 275, Adelaide's STD clinic
and the services it offers. Included is a brief overview of the most common
sexually transmitted diseases in South Australia with links to more detailed
information. Statistics, information for health workers and links to other
STD Clinics are also available.
Vivaids
VIVAIDS is a statewide membership based organisation of drug users funded
through government grants. Its main aim is to increase the knowledge and
understanding amongst drug users about blood borne viruses, overdose and
other issues of concern about illicit drug use. The membership is made
up of current users, ex-users and people whose aim is to increase information
and education about illicit drug use so that people who take drugs do
so with minimum harm to themselves. The web site provides information
related to a range of issues associated with drug taking, HIV/AIDS and
hepatitis.

presents publications, research, facts, news and other resources about
HIV and AIDS. The information on the site is updated hourly, and includes
information on prevention, treatment, discrimination issues and more.
AVERT
A leading UK AIDS Education and Medical Research charity, responsible
for a wide range of education and medical research work. The site focuses
on information about education to prevent infection with HIV, information
for HIV positive people and the latest news and statistics. Resources,
available in a number of languages, include downloadable booklets, conferences
and events announcements, frequently asked questions, and more.

This page is part of the Early Child Development (ECD) web site sponsored
