Task:
Make a collage of:
-
what our society (fashion/media) thinks is the ideal body shape for
males and females.
- what
you think is typical of the various types of body shapes which exist
in our society.
Process:
- On
one side of an A3 piece of paper make a collage of what our society
(fashion/media) thinks is the ideal body shape for males and females.
- On
the reverse side of this A3 sheet make another collage of what you think
is typical of the various types of body shapes which exist in our society.
- To
complete these two tasks you will need to share magazines with other
class members, neatly cutting out body silhouettes and arranging these
on your A3 sheet.
- Include
a title for both of your collages.
- Attach
a sheet to your collages with your answers to the following questions:
- Which
side of your collage looks like your body image?
- Which
would you most like to look like? Why?
- Do
you think adolescents are more concerned with their appearance than
people of other ages?
- In
what way do different cultures look at body shapes and images? Give
some examples, eg. Western cultures (American / European / Australian),
