~ Body Image Assignment ~

Task:
Make a collage of:

  • what our society (fashion/media) thinks is the ideal body shape for males and females.
  • what you think is typical of the various types of body shapes which exist in our society.

Process:

  1. On one side of an A3 piece of paper make a collage of what our society (fashion/media) thinks is the ideal body shape for males and females.
  2. On the reverse side of this A3 sheet make another collage of what you think is typical of the various types of body shapes which exist in our society.
  3. To complete these two tasks you will need to share magazines with other class members, neatly cutting out body silhouettes and arranging these on your A3 sheet.
  4. Include a title for both of your collages.
  5. Attach a sheet to your collages with your answers to the following questions:
    1. Which side of your collage looks like your body image?
    2. Which would you most like to look like? Why?
    3. Do you think adolescents are more concerned with their appearance than people of other ages?
