The following are links to templates that you can use, and re-use, for various aspects of any research assignment. By clicking on these links you will open word documents that have simple tables for you to fill in, according to your own search topic. IMPORTANT! Remember to save your work as you go, using a unique filename [all lowercase, no spaces, less than 10 letters/digits long + .doc extension]. Save <yourfilename>.doc to a floppy disk or your personal directory for further work/processing. You can then reopen the document and use the embedded hyperlinks to further explore the world wide web, even though it is not an actual web page. Search plan - its all in the preparation!! You will find research sooo much easier if you are organised from the very beginning!! Webnotes template - use this table to take electronic notes of an individual source. It is well worth completing the site evaluation sections before you take notes - if the site lacks credibility, there's not much point in using the information is there?! Portable bookmarks/Webliography - copy'n'paste the URLS etc of potentially useful sites into this table, during your first quick 'sweep' of the internet. Then you can revisit for a closer look and some electronic note-taking. That way you will not get lost in cyberspace, or have to redo the initial searches! Another plus is that if you save them to a floppy disk, then you can use them on any computer. A further bonus is that this becomes your record sheet for a bibliography [but only for internet sources]. Follow the layout guidelines for the actual bibliography. Bibliography record sheet for magazine and newspaper sources - be aware that magazines and newspapers are an important source for current and up-to-date information. Follow the layout guidelines for the actual bibliography.
