Western Adelaide Wastewater Network Upgrade
Temporary Bypass Pumping
Installation Works Near Adelaide High School
As you may be aware, SA Water has been undertaking works for the Western Adelaide Wastewater Network Upgrade project. The upgrade consists of the installation of 2.5km of new sewer pipes. The new pipeline alignment will be constructed from West Terrace, through the Adelaide Park Lands and tie into an existing main, at the North Adelaide Golf Course in War Memorial Drive. This investment will significantly reduce the risk of pipe collapse and will accommodate for future population growth.
What we’re doing:
To allow our crew to safely work on the existing main in West Terrace in the coming weeks, we need to use ‘bypass pumping’. Bypass pumping uses pumps and temporary pipes to divert the sewer around the worksite. Bypass pumping equipment is temporarily set up in West Terrace (underground and aboveground) and we will be installing more in the bus lane on Currie Street, near the intersection of West Terrace.
When it’s happening:
The equipment will be set up during the evening (7pm - 7am) in Currie Street from this week, to remain there until mid-March 2017. Please note that traffic management will be in place for the works, including temporary fencing, barriers and speed restrictions. The bus lane will be closed for the works, however no other access will be restricted and the area will be reinstated upon completion. See image below of site location.
The construction crew are aware of the dense student foot-traffic near this intersection in the mornings and afternoons and the site set up will ensure there is sufficient room at the intersections for students to cross.
