Students at Adelaide High School are provided with various co-curricular initiatives that may not normally occur as part of the day to day programs within the school.
Examples of Performing Arts opportunities
Running With Scissors
A new initiative in the Creative Arts in 2010 was the Running with Scissors Theatre Company. This company was formed to allow students the ability to improve their skills as an actor/performer whilst working in a professional environment at “Higher Ground” in the Adelaide CBD. Students learn skills in Administration, Stage Management and Technical Production. In it’s inaugural year the company was formed by auditioning students from Years 9 to 11. In proceding years Year 8 students will be auditioned to gain the right to join the company. In 2010 the company performed, “rorriMMirror” and “Miss Pettigrew’s Little Book on Etiquette for the Young Existentialist”. In 2011 the second instalment of the saga “Henrietta St” first performed in 2008 continued in “Tinker’s Curse” while in 2014 the company performed "The Dream Thief". In 2015 there were 2 productions: "Finding Comfort Where You Can, in this, the Ruin of Civilisation..." and "If The Walls Could Speak". In 2016 the ensemble presented "The one with the toys ..." 2017 will see RwS performing in the Adelaide Fringe Festival at The Spiegelzelt in Gluttony, March 14, 15, 16.
Performance ensembles at Adelaide High School include Stage Band, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Greek Band and Adelaide Vocal. Each ensemble has a different instrumentation and repertoire and Music students are invited to join the ensembles when Music staff think they are ready to do so.
Performances for these ensembles may include Cabaret Night, Jazz Night, Music Performances, Conversazione, Year 7 Transition Day, Formal Assemblies, and the MacRobertson Exchange.

Our teaching emphasis in the Arts is directed towards promoting individuality, teamwork, the generation of creative ideas and activities, performance, problem solving, the development of aesthetic values, the development of various Arts skills and an appreciation of the Arts in a variety of cultures and settings.
