The Prefect System
Each year twenty two students (16 from Year 12, 4 from Year 11 and 2 international students) are elected to be Prefects.
All students in Years 8 - 11 vote in elections held early in Term 4.
The appointment to the position of Prefect is an honour accorded to a student by the School Community. It is an office which carries specific responsibilities. These are in three main areas:
- The Prefect as a Student Leader
- The Prefect as an example to other students
- The Prefect as an ambassador for the school
Prefects wear a badge, a special tie (stripes of silver and black) and a blazer which has black and white braid.
Prefects are students who endeavour to be positive role models and provide leadership to the school. They represent the school and provide assistance at a number of functions including the annual Conversazione, Head of the River, Open Night, Parent Teacher Interview Nights School Swimming and Sports Carnivals, the Year 9 Prefects’ Cup, the Talent Quest, a Casual Day, a Sausage Sizzle and other tasks as advised by the Principal or the Prefect Coordinators.
All Prefects visit Year 8 and Year 9 Pastoral Care Groups during Pastoral Care Group period to help Year 8 students learn about Adelaide High School traditions and activities and to support Year 9s wherever possible.
