Last week was a wonderfully productive week for the Year 8/9 rowers and we have almost completed our senior rowing camp for January.
As next week is the first week back at school it is also our first week back at rowing training which will be run from West Lakes.
There is NO regatta for our rowers this weekend (January 28).
We WILL be racing at the Murray Bridge Regatta on February 11 but you will need to organise your own transport. Please contact me if you have any problems.
Training Program

Training starts again this coming Tuesday (January 31) and attached is the training program for Term 1 2012. All training sessions will occur at West Lakes. I have booked buses to transport students in the morning to arrive at school on time and from school to West Lakes for the afternoon session. I have organised the coaches and training plans, so all we need now is many, many happy and talented students to coach. For the older students training will mainly occur in the morning and a bus will deliver the students to school after each session. This leaves their afternoons free for homework, swimming, cross-training, socialising, eating and sleeping as all growing teenagers should do!
All rowers need to find their own way to West Lakes in the morning, and home from West Lakes in the afternoons.
For the younger rowers a bus will pick the students up at school directly after the bell goes and take them to West Lakes where we will train until 6pm and then they are to be collected from the West Lakes boatshed. Students should make sure they pack hats, sun glasses, sunscreen, water and food for after the session, as well as their zoot suit, sneakers and socks.
Year 8 Transition Program
Over the next two weeks we also have the Year 8 Transition Program, a time when all the new Year 8 students starting at the school have an opportunity to come down to the Torrens boatshed and have a try at rowing. I have asked a few rowing students to help out with this process and I would like to thank them and their families for helping encourage the new Year 8 students to get involved in this great sport.
Head of the River
Head of the River (HoR) is fast approaching. We have had some great rowing so far but we do have a lot more work to get done to ensure we have a highly competitive team at the HoR. Please ensure that we are all attending allocated sessions, being punctual, listening and always working at 110% during each session. We have great teams, great coaches and a good quality fleet of boats, so take care of all of our assets including each other.
Regatta Schedule
We have a lot of regattas coming up including one at Murray Bridge and one that we are hosting ourselves. So there is a lot of planning and organisation to take part in. Please get involved and help out the club in any way you can. The Friends of the Rowers (Parents Committee) need dedicated people who are willing to put their hand up and help make our regatta an exciting, successful and rewarding regatta. We need volunteers, sponsors, organisers as well as many people who can be used to ensure the Adelaide High School Regatta goes off without a hitch. Please contact Ian Mannix on 0409 610 452 to offer your help.
I look forward to a successful second half of the rowing season with many great training sessions and regattas leading up to the HoR and end of season dinner. Please email or call me if you have any questions or enquiries.
