As the rowing season draws to a close there are many events coming up.
Please take your time to read the following and add all the dates mentioned to your busy calendar.
Training
Firstly trainings have been improving as have our race results and attendance at regattas, great work team! Lets keep looking for improvements, there are only 5 weeks to go!
Another great achievement for our club, coaches and wonderful rowers is that we have been able to form a Senior Boys 8! The most prestigious boat that a school can have on the water, our boys are training hard and gaining some great skills. It is a late start so we are quickly trying to make up for lost time on the water. Thank you from the school, the principal, the coaching staff, all the parents, family friends and the rowers who helped make this possible.
This Friday is a Student Free Day, the Year 9/10 boys still have their usual training. The Seniors are training at 7am. However there will be NO BUS leaving from West Lakes that morning so the rowers need to find their own way from training. There are buses and a train station not far from the rowing course.
Regattas
As I mentioned we only have 5 more weeks until the Head of the River. And in those five weeks there is a lot happening. Firstly we have another Super Series regatta at West Lakes this weekend. Following that we have NO REGATTA Saturday the 3rd of March, INSTEAD we are training SUNDAY the 4th at West lakes from 8am till 11am.
Adelaide High School Regatta: March 24
Our Adelaide High School Regatta is March the 24th! And we would like all rowers and their families to come and support our club. All Year 8 rowing entry students are ask to come down for the day and help hold boats at the start line and we also need many parents to put their hands up to volunteer for a few hours during the day. Please speak to Ian Mannix 0409 610 452 about how and when you are able to help during the regatta. Your help is greatly appreciated. Also if you can wear our school colours on the day (Black and white) that would be TIP TOP!
Head of the River: March 31
The following regatta is Head of the River (31st of March) this is a huge regatta with many, many, many kids, parents and spectators. Please be organized to arrive early as parking can be hard, the kids have some very tough races on so it is important to rest the night before, eat healthy and properly and of course be a positive thinking role model!
End of Season Dinner: April 28
After the school holidays we have our annual End of Season Dinner, this will be Saturday the 28th of April at the Riviera Function Centre (31-31 North Tce). Seats are limited and we are going on a first in, best dressed approach. So please pay early and secure a seat. Invitations will be posted out very shortly and you are able to call the school to pay or bring in the invitation with payment details. Please speak to the school to secure a seat.
Year 8 Training
Training for our Year 8 students will start on the 5th of March at the River Torrens. Training will be from 3.30 until 5pm with the year 8 boys training Monday after schools and the year 8 girls training Thursday after schools. This will be a busy time for everyone involved in our program and the year 8 rowing entry students will be expected to be positive and patient as the other rowers catch up on their rowing abilities so that all students are competent rowers before rowing camp in September.
Rowing Camp: September 11 - 18
Rowing camp next season will be held at Mannam Caravan Park from September 11th until 14th for Year 8 students and September 14th until 18th for all older rowers. More details will be available closer to the date.
Thank you to everyone who has helped out with all the jobs at regattas and a big thank you to the Friends of the Rowers committee. I love seeing so many happy faces down at all the regattas and I know the students appreciate all the support, car rides, food prepared for them, happy faces and great encouragement. Thank you to all the parents that help support their rowers when they are down, rowing is a very hard sport that requires enormous dedication to the team just to be competitive. I understand that it is very challenging for a young person to comprehend the amount of work needed to achieve in rowing, but with your guidance at home it does help us coaches at training.
Thank you for all your hard work, early morning and late afternoons. Together we can achieve more.
