Girls Sport Program

The School offers a variety of sports for girls throughout the year. In line with Department for Education policy, Adelaide High School regards sport as a natural extension of the Physical Education Curriculum.

The Girls’ Sport Program reflects a commitment to equal opportunities for all students and is designed to be appropriate to the level of development of the participants. Year 8 students are provided with the opportunity to continue participating in the sports that they have competed in during Primary School and are also encouraged to try other sports that they are not familiar with.

The School participates in the Southern Zone Competition with matches scheduled each week as well as state wide Knockout Competitions which cover all sports. Announcements about the formation of teams and training times are made available in the Student Bulletin Notices.

Terms 1 & 4 see the girls competing in Zone Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis and Indoor Soccer. Trials and training sessions for these sports begin early with Zone matches starting in Week 4 of the first term.

The winter sports for Terms 2 & 3 feature Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton and Table Tennis.

There are also opportunities during the year for students to be involved in sporting clinics.

Coaching and Umpiring sessions for Netball, Volleyball and Football will be made available to students wishing to increase their knowledge and understanding of various sports.

The school also participates in the 9 A-Side Southern Zone Football Competition which is held at Adelaide High School and sponsored by the SANFL. This competition is designed to encourage girls to participate in football and develop a ‘love for the game’.

The Interschool Girls’ Athletics Carnival and Swimming Carnivals are other features of the Term 1 Calendar and provide competitors with the opportunity to compete with other elite athletes.

The highlight of Girls’ Sport each year is the ‘MacRob Exchange’ held in either Melbourne(odd years) or Adelaide (even years) during August. The girls compete in a number of sports and students are selected for teams based on both their skill level and commitment. Also included in the sporting competition between the schools are Theatre Sports, Debating, Chess and Choir. The experience is certainly a memorable one for all participants and also provides the opportunity for students to create lifelong friendships with students from MacRobertson Girls’ High School.
