The schools in the Extended Curriculum Group – Parade Cluster offer a series of mini-courses, which enable gifted and talented students to explore a topic not usually offered in the normal curriculum.

These courses give students the opportunity to work with a group of like-minded students.

The courses feature some of the following:

  • A variety of learning experiences, for example, problem solving, group discussions and hands-on activities
  • Higher order thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis and evaluation, as well as thinking strategies such as De Bono’s Thinking Hats and Multiple Intelligences, are employed
  • Acceleration of learning for the age group in question and contain greater depth or breadth.

One of the benefits of the courses being offered by different schools is that they provide meaningful social interaction among students.

Courses offered in 2012 included students looking at Rights, Reform and Constitution to Science, English, Crafts, Music, Art and Philosophy.

Courses are periodically advertised through the Student Notices or contact Mary O’Donnell, Coordinator Learning Support, in the Library for further information.
