On November 18, the Year 10 Middle School Leaders were ambassadors for the Premier’s be active Challenge Reception held at ETSA Park. The aim of this yearly event was to recognise the 50 high achieving schools that participated in the Premier’s be active Challenge in 2011.

Prior to and after the actual presentation of awards, the Middle School Leaders ran ‘come and try’ stations in small groups for primary school children ranging from Years 2–7. The stations were football, skipping, basketball and were run for two 30 minute sessions.

Another responsibility of the Middle School Leaders was to escort VIP’s such as the Challenge Ambassadors and State Government officials to their seats. Some of these VIP’s consisted of the Premier, the Minister for Education, AFL players from Port Power and the Adelaide Crows and a Paralympian.

During the actual presentation the Adelaide High School students performed a number of official roles, while Fabian Garcia-Byrne and Olivia Soloman accepted Adelaide High School’s award for being one of the 50 high achieving schools. This award is particularly impressive as Adelaide High School was the only high school to be recognised in this capacity, with the school’s success being attributed to the Turn Your Health Around program which has been running successfully in the Middle School for the last three years. The Middle School Leaders have supported this program by mentoring the Year 8 and 9 students, running lunchtime activities for them and entering data on the Premier’s be active Challenge website.

Congratulations to all the Adelaide High School Middle School students who participated in the Premier’s be active Challenge this year and contributed to Adelaide High School receiving this significant award.

A big thank you to the Middle School Leaders who performed their roles so admirably at the presentation ceremony and who were great ambassadors for Adelaide High School.
